The Executive Secretary of the Permanent Interstate Committee for drought control in the Sahel (CILSS), Dr. Abdoulaye Mohamadou, and the Coordinator of the Regional Water Control Program, Clément OUEDRAOGO, paid a courtesy visit to ECREEE on Friday 10 February 2023.
The CILSS was created in 1973 following the major droughts that hit the Sahel in the 1970s. Their mandate is to invest in the search for food security and in the fight against the effects of drought and desertification.
During the visit, the Executive Director of ECREEE, Mr. Jean Francis Sempore, spoke about ECREEE’s different programs, with a special focus on the Bioenergy and Water, Energy and Food Nexus programs, sectors in which CILSS plays an important role in the Sahel region.
The Executive Secretary of CILSS expressed their willingness to support ECREEE’s current programs with their expertise and lessons learnt from projects in the different value chains of agriculture and fishery in the region, as well as offering support for the scale up of projects.
