With the start of discussions with stakeholders, the enabling environment for off-grid rural electrification in the three member states of the Liptako-Gourma region has been revived. In Burkina Faso, a stakeholder conference was held in Ouagadougou on February 16, 2023, while in Mali it was held in Bamako on March 20 and in Niger, the consultation meeting was held in Niamey on March 23.
The main topics discussed at these three events were:
- The creation or strengthening of the capacities of a national platform for the coordination of stakeholders and its operationalization;
- The challenges of rural electrification in the context of security risks;
- Rural electrification as an opportunity for rural development; and
- Sharing experiences in rural electrification.
These events promote collaboration, learning and adaptive management and were organized within the framework of the project “Support to Rural Electrification by Renewable Energy Systems in the LIPTAKO GOURMA Region – Pilot Phase”, implemented by the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency with the support of UNDP.
