To harness the potential of green hydrogen in the ECOWAS region, the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), in collaboration with the West African Science Service Centre for Climate and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL), developed the ECOWAS Green Hydrogen Policy and Strategic Framework, which was adopted by the ECOWAS Council of Ministers in July 2023, in Bissau, Guinea Bissau. To ensure that the policy objectives are achieved and translated accordingly into concrete actions at regional and national levels, ECREEE in collaboration with regional and national stakeholders developed a Regional Strategy and Action Plans for the implementation of the Policy and Strategic Framework.
It is against this background that ECREEE, in collaboration with Energy Commission of Ghana, organized a regional workshop to validate the draft ECOWAS Green Hydrogen Regional Strategy and Action Plans (form 2023-2030 & 2031-2050), on September 21st and 22nd, 2023 in Accra, Ghana. This workshop brought together representatives from ECOWAS member states, the ECOWAS Energy Directorate, ECOWAS Specialized Energy Agencies (ECREEE, ERERA, WAPP, WAGP), as well as representatives from BMBF, WASCAL and other partners.
This workshop was chaired by Ing. Seth Mahu, Representative of the Hon. Minister of Energy of Ghana, Mr. Sediko DOUKA, Commissioner for Infrastructure, Energy and Digitalization of the ECOWAS Commission and Dr Korgo BRUNO, Regional Coordinator – Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen.
