Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, 13 January 2025 – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and the African Legal Support Facility (ALSF) of the African Development Bank (AfDB) are organized a training for ECOWAS staff on the legal and regulatory aspects of solar photovoltaic projects and battery energy storage systems (BESS) projects in partnership with the GIZ-ProCEM project.
This training took place from 13 to 17 January 2025 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, benefiting 15 participants from ECREEE, the West African Power Pool (WAPP), the Regional Regulatory Authority for the Electricity Sector (ARREC) and the Directorate of Energy and Mines of the ECOWAS Commission. The opening was marked by the interventions of Francis SEMPORE, Executive Director of ECREEE and Mrs. Maude VALEEE, Head of the Operations Division of ALSF.
This training is part of ALSF’s assistance to the ECOWAS Commission to reinforce the capacity of ECOWAS Member States and ECOWAS specialized agencies namely ECREEE, WAPP, ARREC and the Directorate of Energy and Mines of the ECOWAS Commission. ECREEE is acting as the implementing agency of the agreement entitled “Capacity Building Assistance in the Energy Sector” between the ALSF and the ECOWAS Commission. This initiative contributes to the promotion of an enabling environment for the development of Renewable Energy in West Africa and the operationalization of the West Africa Clean Energy Corridor (WACEC).
As part of this initiative, a regional training on the subject was organized from the 28 of October to 1st November, 2024 in Praia, Cape Verde, benefiting selected trainers from national electricity companies, independent private power generation companies, national regulatory agencies, universities and training centers in the ECOWAS region.
