NATIONAL FORUM ON RENEWABLE ENERGY DRAW UP STRATEGY TO IMPLEMENT MICROGENERATION

The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and the General Directorate of Energy (DGE), in partnership with the Municipality of Ribeira Brava São Nicolau, jointly organized a national forum on “Decentralized Electrification and renewable energy and Desalination – challenges and opportunities”, on  March 28th 2014 in São Nicolau  island, Cape Verde.

The event took place in the framework of the preparation of the Second National Forum for Transformation – Cape Verde 2030. The main objective of the meeting was to collect subsidies and create a space for discussion on the importance of energy for the country’s economic transformation and also to build consensus around the challenge of achieving higher penetration rate of renewable energy.

The key outcomes of the Forum were the creation of a working group to address technical issues and set up a strategy to mitigate barriers for the implementation of microgeneration as well as the DGE’s commitment in supporting the Ribeira Brava Municipality of S. Nicolau in materializing the decentralized Project for electrification of Carriçal.
