Praia, September 26, 2024 – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) hosted a workshop at its headquarters in Praia, Cabo Verde, aimed at enhancing collaboration among key ECOWAS specialized agencies. The event focused on addressing regional challenges in energy, water, agriculture, and gender mainstreaming.
Mrs. Monka Oulate Fattoh (Director of the ECOWAS Gender Development Center – EGDC), Mr Alexis Kouassi (Director of the Water Resources Management Centre – WRMC), Mr. Kebba Fye (Acting Director of the Project Preparation and Development Unit – PPDU) and Mr. Kanfitin Konlani (Representative of the Executive Director of the Regional Authority for Agriculture and Food – ECOWAS – ARAA) participated this workshop. Discussions centered on improving collaboration to address the Energy-Water-Food Nexus and integrating gender in energy projects.
ECREEE Executive Director, Jean Francis Sempore, emphasized the importance of inter-agency partnerships to tackle regional issues. Other speakers highlighted the need for better infrastructure, stronger partnerships, and clearer roadmaps to maximize impact. The workshop concluded with strategies to integrate sustainable energy and human development into future ECOWAS initiatives, with participants calling for continued cooperation to empower communities and enhance livelihoods across West Africa.
