Delegates from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH met with The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) to discuss potential areas for collaboration in renewable energy and energy efficiency, in the ECOWAS region.
Mr. Mahama Kappiah, gave a presentation on ECREEE’s programmes and activities followed by in-depth discussions with various ECREEE experts. He noted that a partnership with GIZ would be remarkably timely, especially given that the Centre is moving towards the next stage of implementation, through the development of national action plans, the adopted regional polices on renewable energy and energy efficiency.
The GIZ mission to ECREEE is part of a broader project scoping mission on “Promoting climate-friendly regional electricity markest in West Africa” to various ECOWAS countries, including meetings with the main stakeholders within the region.
It is envisaged that as a result of this new cooperation, the conditions necessary for increasing the deployment of renewable energy within the power sector of West Africa will be strengthened.
