Praia, December 8th, 2018 – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), once more has demonstrated its strong commitment to promote sustainable energy in the ECOWAS region by establishing a strategic partnership with the SolarWind.
SolarWind positions itself as a leading electronic expert and renewable energy technology group of companies providing design, consultancy, build and operate medium to large power plants, solar lighting systems and solar water treatments solution. The company combines renewable energy and storage to provide communities with clean, resilient an affordable power, public lighting and water.
With this cooperation, both institution pledge to work together to address various existing barriers hindering the optimum utilization of the manifold renewable energy and energy efficiency potentials in West Africa, taking in consideration that the ECOWAS Renewable Energy Policy (EREP) aims at increasing the share of renewable energy to 35% in 2020 and 48% by 2030.
It is against this background that the Executive Director of ECREEE, Mahama Kappiah received a delegation of SolarWind composed by Cédric Miroux, Associate CEO and Richard Anselme, General Manager at the headquarters of the Centre, to officially formalize this strategic partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.
ECREEE and SolarWind have agreed to specifically joint efforts towards the implementation of solar projects with applications on solar pumps for irrigation and drinking water, solar Mini Grids, rooftop solar PV systems and also upcoming programs on solar E-mobility & Storage and Solar Parks/Utility –Scale Solar Projects in ECOWAS region, common to both.
Among other issues, this arrangement will allow the institutions to work towards the promotion of sustainable solar energy systems and related services, innovative business models, sharing best practice, tapping into global expertise and project financing opportunities and raising the profile of local/regional expertise and projects.
ECREEE has embarked in a serious and conscious effort to forge partnerships with relevant institutions around the world working in the renewable energy industry in order to bring creative options and the best solutions to the ECOWAS people, contributing to achieve the renewable energy and energy efficiency targets for the Economic Community of West African States.
