The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) in partnership with the Ministry of Energy of Cabo Verde recently held a lecture at the High School of São Lourenço dos Órgãos. The lecture was followed by an exhibition of efficient cookstoves fuelled with renewable energy sources and a guided tour of the biogas installation at the village.
This date was established in order to raise awareness of world leaders to the need to adopt strategies for the rational consumption of energy and the promotion of alternative forms of energy to ensure environmental sustainability. To mark this date the Directorate General for Energy declared 18 May to 19 June as the month of energy and has scheduled several activities such as lectures, visits and sectorial meetings on issues of energy efficiency, renewable energy and energy access. As a highlight of the celebrations of Access to Energy, the DGE in partnership with ECREEE held the event described in the opening paragraph at the High School of São Lourenço dos Órgãos on 29 May, 2015.
