Abuja, November 13, 2023. ECREEE participated in the second German-Nigerian Symposium on Green Hydrogen in Abuja hosted by the German-Nigerian Hydrogen Office and the Nigerian government. The Hydrogen Office is part of the Global Hydrogen Diplomacy (H2-Diplo) project, which is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and financed by the Federal Foreign Office (AA).
The Symposium was attended by high-profile speakers in the energy and environment sector from Nigeria and Germany.
The Executive Director of ECREEE, Mr. Francis SEMPORE and the Coordinator of the Green Hydrogen Programme, Dr Madi KABORE delivered a keynote address on the ECOWAS Green Hydrogen Policy and Strategy Framework adopted in July 2023 and the Regional Green Hydrogen Strategy and Action Plans of 2023-2030 and 2031-2050 which were approved by the ECOWAS Energy Ministers in October 2023.
A key part of the symposium was the presentation of the H2-Diplo studies on Nigeria’s Green Hydrogen Potential and Policy and Regulatory Frameworks. The presentation was followed by expert panel discussions on “Low-carbon hydrogen as a building block of a Just Transition in Nigeria” and “Private sector as a key player in the energy transition”.
The symposium, which was chaired by the Honourable Minister of State for Environment and Ecological Management and by the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Nigeria served as a forum to facilitate knowledge exchange, foster collaboration, and explore opportunities in the low-carbon hydrogen sector.
