The ECOWAS Renewable Energy Facility (EREF) will support the second call for proposals, which the focus is to provide grant co-funding for the installation of renewable energy powered micro-grids (including hybrids), in rural and peri-urban areas of the ECOWAS Member States. The project will be managed by the ECREEE Secretariat in cooperation with its National Focal Institutions, with the support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the Austrian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management.
The implementation of the EREF is undertaken within the execution of action line Number 2 of the ECOWAS/UEMOA White Paper, which calls for an innovative investment fund for RE and EE projects to raise fund for at least 200 projects and support to local manufacturing and service companies. The Facility contributes to respond to the urgent need of investment for rural and peri-urban areas of West Africa, where the access to energy services is still challenging.
The second call will be launched in the second quarter of the year and the interested promoters should check periodically ECREEE webpage for updates.
