Praia, February 6, 2025 – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) welcomed high-level representatives from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) to discuss ongoing and future collaborative efforts aimed at promoting sustainable development in West Africa. The delegation included Ms. Cecilia García Gasalla, Director of Cooperation with Africa and Asia at AECID, and Mr. Santiago Ormeño, General Coordinator of AECID for ECOWAS and Nigeria.

The working visit marks a significant step in reinforcing the partnership between ECREEE and AECID, following the finalization of their new collaborative program for 2024–2027. As stated by Mr. Francis Sempore, Executive Director of ECREEE and Acting Resident Representative of the President of the ECOWAS Commission, this collaboration underscores the shared commitment of ECREEE and AECID to advancing renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable development across the ECOWAS region. By aligning their efforts with regional and global sustainability goals, the two institutions aim to drive transformative changes and improve the quality of life for millions of people in West Africa.

Among the prioritized areas of focus are the Water-Energy-Food Nexus and Circular Economy, which aim to address interconnected challenges in resource management and sustainability.
