Validation of the Manual for Gender Assessment in Renewable Energy Projects

Abidjan, November 28, 2024 – As part of the WACEC program (West African Clean Energy Corridor), ECREEE, with the support of GIZ, organized a workshop to validate the Manual for Gender Assessment in Renewable Energy Projects, with the participation of Gender and Energy Focal Points from ECOWAS Member States. This workshop was one of the side events of the 9th edition of the ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Forum (ESEF 2024).

This manual contributes to the operationalization of the ECOWAS Directive on Gender Assessments in Energy Projects and aims to facilitate the integration of gender considerations in all sustainable energy projects.

Participants highlighted the crucial importance of energy development for ECOWAS’s economic growth while emphasizing the gender inequalities that such projects can create. The ECOWAS Directive thus requires a thorough assessment of the specific needs of women and men to ensure a more equitable energy development.

The validation of this manual marks a key step toward a more equitable and inclusive energy transition in West Africa.
