Closing of the ESEF 2024

Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, November 29, 2024 – The 9th edition of the ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Forum (ESEF) 2024 concluded successfully at the Parc des Expositions of Abidjan on November 28-29, 2024. The event brought together global stakeholders to discuss and advance sustainable energy solutions for the ECOWAS region under the theme “Towards a Just Energy Transition in West Africa.”

The opening ceremony featured distinguished speakers, including the Executive Director of the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), Mr. Francis Sempore, the Partner’s Representative, Mr. Günther Rapp, Project Manager at GIZ, the ECOWAS Commissioner for Infrastructure, Energy, and Digitalization, Mr. Sediko Douka, and the Minister of Mines, Petroleum, and Energy of Cote d’Ivoire, Mr. Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly.

The official opening ceremony of ESEF 2024, chaired by the Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy of Cote d’Ivoire, was attended by the ministers in charge of Energy of Cape Verde, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Congo and Chad.

The two-day forum featured an engaging agenda, including:

  1. First Day – The Ministerial Dialogue on Energy Transition and the High-Level Dialogue on Energy Water and Food Nexus, Green Finance Fundraising Luncheon, as well as special sessions on Energy Efficiency and e-Mobility with the launch of the Project “Integration of Electric Mobility with Renewable Energy Solutions in Côte d’Ivoire” and Energy Efficiency for Sustainable Livelihoods in Africa “EELA” Program in West Africa
  2. Second day – was dedicated to technical sessions: ROGEAP program, Clean Energy Mini-Grids, Clean Energy Corridor, Battery Energy Storage, Energy Water Food Nexus, Gender Mainstreaming in Energy Access, Sustainable Bioenergy and Clean Cooking, Energy modelling for Sustainable Development.

As customary, ESEF 2024 ended with an Awards Ceremony chaired by the Representative of the Minister of Mines, Petroleum, and Energy of Cote d’Ivoire. ECREEE recognized some twenty individuals and partner organizations that have made exceptional contributions to promoting sustainable energy in the region.

ESEF 2024 welcomed around 400 participants from 30 countries in Africa and the world. ESEF 2024 once again reaffirmed its status as the premier event for sustainable energy in West Africa, fostering collaboration and driving impactful change.
