Banjul, Gambia, 13 June – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), in partnership with the ECOWAS Regional Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERERA), the West African Power Pool (WAPP) and with the support of GIZ in the framework of the Program Promotion of a Climate-friendly Electricity Market in the ECOWAS Region (ProCEM II), is organizing a regional validation workshop for the West African Clean Energy Corridor (WACEC) documents. This event will take place in Banjul, The Gambia, from June 12 to 14, 2024.
After the presentation of the country experiences held on June 12, 2024, the official ceremony of this workshop took place on June 13, 2024, under the presidency of Mrs. Amie Njie-Joof, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Petroleum and Energy (The Gambia) in the presence of Mr. Francis SEMPORE, ECREEE Executive Director.
The workshop aims to bring together key energy-related stakeholders to exchange, review, and validate key documents. The agenda includes:
- Review and validation of the Draft Regional Directive on the promotion of solar PV power projects.
- Review and validation of the Draft Catalogue of guarantees and insurances to be provided by States, Financial Institutions (IFIs), and Project Promoters.
Participants include representatives from the Energy Ministries and National Regulators of ECOWAS Member States, the ECOWAS Commission and the Specialized Agencies (ECREEE, ERERA, WAPP).
As a prelude to this regional validation workshop, ECREEE and the other specialized agencies (ERERA, WAPP) jointly organized in November 2023 the validation workshop of the models of electricity purchase and concession contracts under WACEC.
