SOLtrain West Africa: Capacity Building and Technology Transfer for solar water heating starting in Cabo Verde

Mindelo, São Vicente, Cabo Verde
05/03/2017
In the framework of the training and demonstration program SOLtrain West Africa ECREEE, the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in West Africa, continues the trainings for professionals (train the trainer) in the 5 countries of Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal. The experienced trainers of AEE INTEC will implement in 2017 and 2018 the next series of training sessions, starting in Mindelo in Cabo Verde from 3-5 May 2017. Appropriate training manuals and slides are available in English, French and Portuguese. After each “train the trainer” course the training institutions are assigned to implement a training course on their own on the learnt training topics and disseminate them to installers, technicians and designers. All trainings end with an exam which is necessary to obtain to design the demonatration systems later on.
Another activity starting in April 2017 is gathering and exchanging practical experiences by monitoring of 2 existing solar thermal systems per country jointly with the training partner institutions in the 5 countries.
The activities on the program SOLtrain West Africa were based on the market studies on solar water heating and solar drying of agricultural products implemented in these 5 countries in West Africa (see http://www.ecowrex.org/document/cabo-verde-market-report-solar-thermal-water-heating-and-drying-agricultural-products ).
A feasibility study was done for solar water heating systems for the hospital in Praia, Cabo Verde. The tender shall start in the next months.
