On January 8th 2016, the National Water & Electricity Company (NAWEC) has signed a 10 MW Solar PV Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for a 25 years duration with the Independent Power Producer Emerging Power (Gambia) Limited a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) between Z-One and Tryba Energy.
The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) through its Technical Assistance Facility for Grid-connected RE projects established in partnership with GIZ, provided technical assistance to NAWEC in 2015 consisting of revising and proposing improvements to the draft Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and Network Connection Agreement (NCA) that was being proposed and discussed with Emerging Power (Gambia) Limited. This technical assistance has thus contributed to the recent signing of the PPA between the two entities.
Upon operation, which is scheduled in May 2016, this 10 MW Solar PV project will help to increase generation of sustainable electricity in the Gambia. To the signature ceremony attended, among other personalities, the Gambian Minister of Energy, NAWEC senior management and the Managing Director of Emerging Power (Gambia) Ltd.
