ECOWAS Industry Ministers adopt regional Standards on standalone solar systems and solar PV mini-grids

The Meeting of ECOWAS Industry Ministers held on Thursday, 30 March 2023 in Banjul, The Gambia considered and adopted six (6) Standards on solar energy. This was based on the recommendations of the experts of ECOWAS ministries of industry Meeting, which held from 27 -29 March 2023 in Banjul.

The Standards on standalone solar systems and solar photovoltaic mini-grids aim to provide high quality solar PV equipment and installations in ECOWAS Member States. The process of developing these standards was led by the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and the Industry Directorate of the ECOWAS Commission with the support of the World Bank (ROGEAP Project) and GiZ (AGoSEREE-AO Project).

The ECOWAS Commissioner for Economic Affairs & Agriculture, Mrs Massandjé Toure-Litse, in her welcome remarks at the meeting expressed her gratitude to the government of The Gambia for its support for the organisation of this meeting. She highlighted the objectives of these standards, and she launched a vibrant call for the effective implementation of standards and the establishment of quality infrastructure for harmonious development in the ECOWAS region.
