Praia, May 24, 2023 – The Third Meeting of the Technical Committee for the Certification of Sustainable Energy Competencies debuted on May 24 Praia under the auspices of the ECOWAS Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE). Launched in 2015, the certification platform aims to promote professional skills and fill quality assurance gaps along the renewable energy and energy efficiency value chain in the ECOWAS region.
ECREEE argues that large-scale investments, which are essential to decarbonize and promote energy sustainability, require capacity building of human capital. The certification scheme aims to address this challenge by providing well-trained skills in the field of sustainable energy.
In his opening address, the Executive Director of ECREEE, Mr. Francis Sempore, emphasized this aspect, stressing the importance of capacity building in the region in achieving the goals of sustainable development.
On her part, the Executive Administrator of the Institute for Quality Management and Intellectual Property (IGQPI), Ms. Joana Maria Flor, representing the Minister of Industry, Trade and Energy, spoke of the commitment of Cabo Verde in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sector, highlighting the progress made in the training of its human resources, and assured the support of the government to this regional initiative.
The meeting, which will last for four days, brings together about 50 participants from ECOWAS countries and will be punctuated by the celebration of the 48th anniversary of the ECOWAS Commission in Cabo Verde.
