Following the Austrian World Summit, on June 20th in Vienna, ECREEE signed a high-level partnership with R20, in order to better carry out the value chain of identification, development and financing of sub-national green infrastructure projects. After the signing, these partners were received by the R20 Founding Chair, Mr. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who personally thanked them for their contribution to furthering the mission.
This MoU was signed between ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and Regions of Climate Action (R20) in order to cooperate closely to ensure a proper facilitation process for adequate implementation of clean energy projects in the region.
Regions of Climate Action (R20), is a non-profit organization founded in 2011 by former US Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and other global leaders, in cooperation with the United Nations. R20 is a coalition of technical and non-technical partners and sub-national regions striving to build long-lasting green economies.
The partnership will work to close the existing gap between sustainable energy policy targets and investments and business activities on the ground. In particular, ECREEE and R20 will execute, with the Sustainable Infrastructure Foundation, common capacity building and training activities to help projects become investment ready.
They will also conduct business and investment promotion activities, jointly build a pipeline of clean energy projects, and expose bankable projects to investors.
