The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency dubbed ECREEE in partnership with the Jean Piaget University of Cabo Verde recently organized a seminar on energy efficiency.
The seminar held on the 29th of May 2014, in commemoration of World Energy Day, was presided over by the Cabo Verde Minister of Tourism, Industry and Energy, Dr. Humberto Brito and graced by Jansenio Delgado a representative of ECREEE.
In his opening address, Dr. Humberto Brito, also a former lecturer at the UniPiaget, called on the young people of ECOWAS community to serve as agents of change citing the importance of dialogue with the younger generation. He said, ” it is important that young people assume the role of change agents, deriving thereof the importance of dialogue with the new generation.
The Rector of UniPiaget, Osvaldo Borges, expressed delight on the hosting of seminar at his university saying they have plans to invest in the area of Renewable Energy. He noted that the UniPiaget had already submitted a proposal to MESCI designed to introduce new courses on Renewables and that the University is currently working on the modalities with the Cape Verde School of Business and Technology.
The one day forum discussed several issues relevant to the promotion of Energy Efficiency in the sub-region including the ECOWAS policy for Energy Efficiency, the Energy Efficiency Initiatives, the Compendium of Relevant ECREEE programs, the Action Plan for Energy Efficiency in Cabo Verde, Pedagogical resources for the teaching and learning of Energy Efficiency and the Draft Energy Efficiency developed in Jean Piaget Institute.
An exhibition was also organized by the students of Renewable Energy at the Cabo Verde School of Business and Technology.
