Abidjan, November 30, 2024 – The 4th Meeting of the Steering Committee of the ECOWAS Green Hydrogen Program was held on November 30, 2024, in Abidjan.

This meeting, chaired by Prof. Emmanuel RAMDE, Executive Director of the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL), was attended by Mr. Francis SEMPORE, Director of ECREEE, along with teams from WASCAL and ECREEE. The meeting reviewed the following topics:

  • Status of implementation of activities for the 2023-2024 period;
  • Achievements and challenges to be addressed;
  • Draft roadmap for 2025-2026 for the operationalization of the Regional Strategy and the 2023-2030 Action Plan.

This program is supported by WASCAL through the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Thanks to this program, the ECOWAS Green Hydrogen Policy and Strategic Framework was adopted in July 2023 by ECOWAS institutions. Following the adoption of this policy, the Regional Strategy and Action Plans for 2023-2030 and 2031-2050 were approved by the ECOWAS Ministers responsible for Energy in October 2023.

In 2024, several activities, including capacity-building workshops for Energy Directors of ECOWAS Member States and for the private sector, were organized.
