The energy sector of Cape Verde is an element of central importance for the country’s economic and social development, which depends, to a large extent, on fossil, imported and expensive primary energy sources. Consequently, the Cape Verdean government pursues the aim of establishing an energy sector that is secure, efficient, sustainable and independent from fossil fuels. The main project defined by the government is to achieve a penetration rate of 100% of renewable energy sources in the electricity generation by 2020. Efforts have been made to create strong partnerships, from a technical as well as financial perspective, to ensure a successful realization of this ambitious target.
Germany, in turn, is nowadays one of the European pioneer countries in energy efficiency and renewable energy measures and technologies.
In order to promote partnerships for the increase of energy efficiency and the penetration of renewable energies in the archipelago’s energy sector – institutional or between German and Cape Verdean companies – the German-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Lisbon is organising, in close cooperation with the Directorate General for Energy of Cape Verde (DGE) and with the support of Cape Verde Investments (CI), the Chambers of Commerce and Industry Sotavento and Barlavento, the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and the German consultant RENAC (Renewables Academy), the 1st Business Mission for German companies in Cape Verde.
This initiative will take place between the 12th and 16th of October 2015 and is coordinated with the activities of the 1st Cape Verde International Fair for Renewable Energies (15th to 17th of October 2015), thus completing one week dedicated to energy.
With the participation in the Symposium on the 13th of October2015, in the CERMI (Centre of Renewable Energy and Industrial Maintenance) in Palmarejo/Praia, you can obtain first-hand information about the technologies in the field of Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency already implemented in Germany. In addition, the German companies are going to present their products and services as well as possible areas of cooperation with companies in Cape Verde to a diverse audience of Cape Verdean specialists.
In the days following the Symposium, individual meetings will be held between the German participants and potential Cape Verdean partners, preferably at the premises of the respective Cape Verdean companies. For those Cape Verdean companies with offices in other cities, the CI, the ECREEE and the MTIDE (Cape Verdean Ministry of Tourism, Investment and Business Development) provide their meeting rooms in the city of Praia.
8 German companies are looking for partnerships with Cape Verdean companies and present their solutions:
- AVP GmbH
- Easy Smart Grid GmbH
- HAI-Technology GmbH
- IBAT Payer GmbH
- Intech GmbH & Co. KG
- Lehner Innovative Produkte
- Nordwind Energieanlagen
- Solar23 GmbH
The program of the Symposium you can find here.
The participation in the Symposium is free of charge, but requires registration until 6th of October 2015 through this link and subsequent confirmation by Cape Verde Investments. All the presentations will be simultaneously interpreted.
