Niamey, July 24, 2023 – The opening ceremony of the 11th meeting of the National Focal Institutions (NFIs) of the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) took place on July 24, 2023 in Niamey (Niger) under the chairmanship of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energy of Niger in the presence of the ECOWAS Resident Representative to Niger, the Executive Director of ECREEE and the Representative of the GiZ/PROMERC 2 Project Manager.
The meeting, organized with the support of GiZ, was held to mark ECREEE’s 13th anniversary. The meeting brings together the National Focal Points (Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, Energy Information) of the ECOWAS Member States, and will take place from July 24 to 28, 2023.
ECREEE’s technical and financial partners, in particular GiZ, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), WASCAL, the African Union Energy Commission (AFREC) and the Francophone Institute for Sustainable Development (IFDD), are actively participating in this meeting.
Several topics are on the agenda. These include the process of improving the ECOWAS RE and EE Observatory (ECOWREX), the validation of the ECOWAS RE and EE Annual Reports for the years 2021 and 2022, and the development of a ECREEE-NFI 2023-2027 Roadmap aligned with ECREEE´s 2023-2027 Strategic Plan and the RE and EE National Action Plans of ECOWAS Member States.
Representatives of the ECOWAS Commission’s Directorate of Energy and Mines, the West African Power Pool (WAPP) and the Regional Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERERA) are also taking part in this relevant meeting.
