ECOWAS Region Strives to be the Top Destination for Energy Investments
From the 14th to18th of September 2015, over two hundred participants from the governments, high level policy and decision makers, project promoters, investors and international partners, as well as private sector players and civil society from within the ECOWAS region gathered for the ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Policy & Investment High Level Forum in Abidjan. The five-day meeting featured over 50 speakers drawn from a wide range of sectors both at regional and international level. The key objectives of the Forum were to highlight concrete investment opportunities arising from the National Sustainable Energy Country Action Plans (National Renewable Energy Action Plans (NREAPs), National Energy Efficiency Action Plans (NEEAPs), and the SE4ALL Action Agendas) of ECOWAS Member States. The Plans will clearly demonstrate the current growth trajectory of the sustainable energy sector and the need for increased investments in clean energy to underpin sustainable economic growth.
The discussions touched on issues relating to project development and financing, creating an enabling environment for investment opportunities, the key challenges of sustainable energy in the ECOWAS region, among others.
